Los Roques National Park is home to 140 Molluscan species, 61 coral species, 60 species of sponges, 200 crustacean species, and 280 species of fish.

Earlier fishing was the main activity on these Caribbean islands. Of late the local people have actively participated in tourism activities. Moreover, few lodges present inside the national park were accessible and bought by ones who could afford them.
